I wish I’d read more Mark Fisher while he was alive

I wish I’d read more Mark Fisher while he was alive. I had him down as one of those unreadable post-modernists, but when I read things like this I can see glimpses of how we got where we are today. (Of course that doesn’t mean if he was writing today I’d understand where we were going tomorrow, but it feels like I could’ve.)
Also now I have to watch Sapphire and Steel, as I had no idea it was SF. I thought it was a cheesy special agent show, not some early X-Files dealie.
BTW did y’all see the *latest* X-Files dealie? It covered quite a bit of related territory. If we don’t have reliable memory, we don’t have a collective past, which means big trouble for the present. But it was also funny, which this article isn’t.
Short excerpt: “”Invited to think of the futuristic, we will still come up with something like the music of Kraftwerk, even though this is now as antique as Glenn Miller’s big band jazz was when the German group began experimenting with synthesizers in the early 1970s. Where is the 21st-century equivalent of Kraftwerk? If Kraftwerk’s music came out of a casual intolerance of the already-established, then the present moment is marked by its extraordinary accommodation towards the past. More than that, the very distinction between past and present is breaking down. In 1981, the 1960s seemed much further away than they do today. Since then, cultural time has folded back on itself, and the impression of linear development has given way to a strange simultaneity.”

That's an excellent article. I will add Saphire and Steele to my watch list as well. I'm home sick today and I'm just about to watch the X-files shows from this season. I'm glad there is humor there.

I hope you feel better soon, Phil. Let us know what you thought about the X-Files. The 4th one, something something brow sweat is the one that's highly amusing on the subject of memory etc.
